COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocol

On Monday, August 30, 2021, the Elizabethton City Schools Board of Education approved the following changes to the system’s COVID-19 Health and Safety Plan:

• The current mask mandate for students and staff (with opt-out) is extended through Friday, September 17^th.
• Beginning Wednesday, September 1^st, temperature checks for all students, staff, and visitors will be completed prior to entry into building.
• Continue current contact tracing assistance in cooperation with the Carter County Department of Health
• Positive cases will be required to isolate, based on guidance from the Tennessee Department of Health (TDH).
• School-based close contacts will be identified and parents notified
  • TDH close contact guidance will be shared with the parent.  Parents will have the option to either:
    • Quarantine student based on guidance from TDH; or
    • Allow student to remain in school under the following guidelines:
      • Parents will monitor child for symptoms, and will keep student home if ANY symptoms develop;
      • The district will request that student wear a face covering for the duration of the 10-day suggested quarantine period;
      • Student will report to the school nurse each morning prior to the start of the school day for a well check; if no symptoms are reported or observed, student will be allowed to attend classes.  If ANY symptoms are observed or reported, student will not be allowed to attend classes and must follow quarantine & return to school guidance as prescribed by the TDH.
      • Note:  Household contacts of positive cases must follow the quarantine guidance outlined by the TDH and are not subject to the above school attendance option.
• The Director of Schools maintains the authority to close individual classes, grade levels, programs, individual schools, and the district when necessary, per state guidelines.

For this plan to be effective, it is imperative that parents & guardians work with the school system.  Parents and guardians MUST closely monitor their children for symptoms and KEEP THEM HOME IF THEY ARE SICK OR BECOME SYMPTOMATIC. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school.
